Since its foundation in 1859, High Point, NC, has been referred to as “North Carolina’s international metropolis,” providing residents and visitors with the ease of commerce in a central location. In addition to the High Point Theatre, the city is known for a variety of other accomplishments and attractions. The city was named for being the highest point on the High Point City’s railroad.
High Point Theatre is on a mission to provide entertainment for the people of High Point, North Carolina, and the surrounding areas. It gives clients access to national brands as well as their hometown hospitals.
High Point Theatre, which is owned and run by the City of High Point, is a full-service, state-of-the-art downtown theater with exceptional visibility, high-quality sound and lighting, and a diverse programming schedule. They have expanded their entertainment capabilities to include projection and streaming capabilities, allowing them to create any degree of production. High Point Theatre is home to a variety of events ranging from recitals to pageants, concerts to off-Broadway musicals.
The Theatre, which is housed within the International Home Furnishings Center, which serves as the global headquarters for the High Point Furniture Market, has a capacity of 900 people and is configured in a continental-style configuration. There are no aisles in the center of the auditorium; instead, the only aisles are on the extreme left and right sides of the theatre.
Additionally, the High Point Ballet, the High Point Community Theatre, the High Point Community Concert Association, and the Theatre Art Galleries (TAG), a non-profit organization that hosts art exhibits, are also housed inside the Theatre. Furthermore, the Theatre is the site of the majority of the city’s performances and special events.
A pioneering cooperative effort involving municipal government, private enterprise and the arts, High Point Theatre opened its doors in 1975 as one of the nation’s first such endeavors.
It has hosted a slew of world-class acts and performances during the course of its existence. Dolly Parton, Dave Brubeck, Joan Rivers, William Windom, Charles Kuralt, and Cloris Leachman are just a few of the celebrities who have graced the stage. Among those who have performed at the Theatre in recent years are Boney James, Ricky Skaggs, Kathy Mattea, Barbara Eden, Nneena Freelon, and Branford Marsalis, to name a few notable names.
